Blind stealing has evolved over the last few years beyond the late position raise we all know so well. With the game of poker more aggressive today, the blind steal is an important part of any game. In most internet games today you’ll find yourself up against players who will look to use the re-steal. That’s simply a play that an early position player will make after a late position player makes a raise into an un-raised pot.
They know that the late position player is most likely just making a real estate raise because of their position, and a re-raise will look like a check-raise. They’ll often pick up the hand right there, or they can represent a big hand after the flop. Unless your opponent hits the flop in a big way, they’ll be wary of what you have.
The re-steal has become so common now that the re-re-steal is the new play. That’s exactly what it sounds like; someone makes it three bets pre-flop in a limit hold’em game, or re-raises the raiser in a no-limit game. It just an extension of the re-steal, but it speaks volumes that you are holding a monster hand, whether you are or not.
Traditionally, blind positions would raise with good hands because of their poor position. But with so much aggression pre-flop today, blind position players will often slow play their big hands in order to trap aggressive blind stealers. So don’t go to the well too many times, someone will eventually be waiting for your bluff.
