Bluffing

In the proper setting, stealing the blinds from the “under the gun” position is an advanced poker tactic employed by experienced players. This tactic is simply an attempt to steal the blinds from the worst position on the table.
Most poker theory dictates that it’s wise to only play premium hands from this position. So if most poker players, and especially tight poker players, think that a raise from this position could only come from a big hand, one can periodically steal the blinds. It works best at a tight table and should only be attempted occasionally.
If you get a premium hand under the gun it’s important to still try and steal, and to avoid the temptation to slow-play. It may be an opportunity to show big cards if an opponent decides to “look you up.” If your style appears to be tight enough, this play can be a high-percentage move for you. If you do get exposed raising with junk from under the gun, you should only raise with premium cards the next couple of times you try.
