Texas Holdem,
Multi Table Tournaments
June 13 2009
If you're playing a
multi-table tournament and you have a big chip lead, the best style of play you can employ is to be a bully to the rest of the table. If you have a big chip lead every player has to worry about you because you have the ability to knock them out of the
tournament, but no one can do that to you. This gives you a great advantage against them because they all have to protect their chips to survive. You can afford to take a chance to knock them out, and by forcing the action you can earn a lot of chips.
As the bully you'll be looking to get into hands where you see a sign of weakness. If your opponent shows any indication that they don't want to risk their chips, you can make large bets into them. Another move is to check-raise them a good portion of their stack. If they have the goods they'll return the aggression or call, but most times they'll fold and give you the pot because they want to protect their chips.
As long as you have the
big stack you can keep the aggression up. This style of play will also mask things when you do have a premium hand. These hands will pay big if someone decides to look you up when you're holding the big hand. So don't slow down the aggression when you get good cards, keep the pressure on everyone as much as possible.
