I know that Kenny Rogers sang that you should never count your money at the table, but obviously he wasn't talking about
multi-table tournaments. Many gamblers think that it's bad luck to count their chips, but it's actually quite the opposite. As a player you should know how much you have in front of you at all times for numerous reasons. You should know so you understand where you stack up against your opponents.
Online tournaments provide all this information, but you won't have that luxury in a live event.
Keeping track of your stack tells you if you need to pump up the aggression or not. You'll also know whether or not an opponent is capable of knocking you out of the event. In live games many players will ask you how much you have left in your stack in order to try and pick a physical tell on you as you count your chips for them. If you know how much you have at all times you'll be able to answer the question quickly, without giving away anything about the strength of your hand.
