Every grinder knows that the game of
poker swings from good runs to bad runs, and that winning poker has a lot to do with losing. If you know a proper
bankroll strategy for your game (if you don't I suggest you learn one), you know which games you should be playing in.
But sometimes in your desperation after a bad run the notion to step up into a big game pops into your head. You know that if you hit some hands early on everything you lost that day could be recovered in a few short minutes. Sometimes that's what happens. Usually it just takes what you have left and turns a losing session into a nightmare, leaving you to the
freeroll tournaments until you can free up some cash to get back in the game.
As tempting as this move may be, it's essentially a form of tilt. Even if you climb up and play your best game, you're still acting out of frustration and fear. You're likely to play scared and get pushed off too many pots. Only through discipline and playing within proper limitations can you maintain your play, and bankroll, with any consistency. Otherwise you're destined to go broke time after time.
