If you're playing
fixed limit poker online you know that the aggression level of today's game is elevated from what it once was. Players will bet with nothing in their hand, hoping to use
betting patterns to pick up pots. Many players deal with this aggression by
calling bets and hoping to have more at showdown. Instead of betting or raising their hand for value, they allow the aggressive players to control the betting.
By calling every time you think you have the lead, because you don't have the nut hand, you're allowing your opponents to draw cheaply on you. By not raising them back you let them draw another card for only one bet, giving them better pot odds to draw out. If you're consistently allowing your opponents cheap draws you're destined to suffer beat after beat as your opponents hit the cards they need.
Poker is about betting and
folding, not calling because you think they may be
bluffing. If you think they're bluffing then raise them, don't let them control the action when you have a lead.
