When you decide to sit in on a cash game, you have to decide how many chips you're going to put in front of you. Some players believe that the amount you buy-in for has no real bearing on the game, but everything you do at a
poker table sends a message to your opponents about you.
If you sit down and
buy-in for a big amount, it sends the message that you have lots of cash and that you're not going to be scared money. Fewer players will look to force you in hands because they figure you must have some skill if you have the cash.
Some players will buy-in for small amounts.
Online some will buy-in for barely enough to play a hand, going broke and reloading after they lose one. These players believe they get more action because their stack is so small, and the players that they're in hands against don't worry about losing too much to them in one hand.
If you like operating from a bigger stack it's a good idea to buy-in for a moderate amount first. Then you can add on to it when no one's paying attention. That way you don't bring attention to yourself when you first sit down.
