WPT Legends of Poker Update & Main Event Preview
by Bodog Poker | Aug 5 2009
The
2009 World Poker Tour Legends of Poker has been underway since the 28th of July and so far results for two events are in. In total the Legends of Poker will have 32 events open to the public as well as a media event and an employee's event. Events for most poker variants will be offered, and the 10K holdem Main Event will be played for five days starting on Aug 22. Like a lot of tournaments these days, many of the events are structured with a deep stack format, where buy-in fees are low and starting stacks are big.
Last year John "The Razor" Pham won a see-saw battle against Amit Makhija for a $1.1 million payday. This year's event is sure to be as big as last year, and you can count on many of the Vegas poker regulars to be in attendance. The schedule includes a couple of mixed Hi/Lo events that are half Stud Hi-Lo and half Omaha Hi-Lo. There is also an unlimited $335 and re-buy holdem event, as well as H.O.R.S.E., Super Satellites,
Pot Limit Omaha,
Omaha Hi/Lo, and one $335 Pot Limit Holdem event with one re-buy allowed.
The schedule also includes a charity event on Aug 20th. The Buss/Mariani Lakers Youth Foundation will benefit from the proceeds from this event. It will have a $1070 buy-in and players will start with 15,000 in chips. The main event
satellite tournaments on the 21st and 22nd will cost the same $1070 to enter, but will offer lots of seats into the big event. Starting chips will only be 5000 for the satellite, so players will be forced to play and take their chances.
The WPT Legends of Poker will also offer other tournament action during the days that the main event will be played out. Three Bankroll Builder events are scheduled to be played from August 27-29 for the small price of $100 + $20. Each has 5000 in starting chips and should attract decent numbers of players who still want to
play tournament poker after weeks of action.
The Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles, California will be the setting for the anticipated event. For added incentive the WPT Legends of Poker has offered the winner of any of the events that have a prize pool of over $100K a free seat into a $9,500 + $300 + $200 (non-negotiable, non-refundable, and non-transferable) event.
The ladies also get their own event on Aug 2. The no-limit holdem event is part of the L.I.P.S Tour. Buy-in is only $340 and should have a field of at least 50 female players. Fewer women are playing in the female events than ever before, and these events could become a thing of the past.
