Walter Wright Wins Seat to WSOP Main Event

Walter Wright has won his way into the WSOP main event this July via Bodog's main event satellite. The Las Vegas internet poker pro will be making his first appearance in the big show, and is hoping to record a deep cash for his first nice live tournament payday. He's not going to limit his WSOP experience to the main event, and is hoping to get in at least four other events before he sits down in the big one. The online multi-table tournament (MTT) specialist hasn't had a lot of success in the live tournament realm, but his online stats show that he's capable of going deep into any holdem event he plays in.

Online, Wright goes by the username "panicked" on Bodog and "jlizard" on most other sites. He's a consistent player who cashes almost on a daily basis. He has had lots of success playing at Bodog before his satellite win, including a win in the $100K Guaranteed back on 05/18/2008. Some recent notable cashes include a win in a $55 buy-in $20,000 Guaranteed event on 03/08/2009 for $14,411, another win in a $150 buy-in $65,000 Guaranteed event on 12/30/2008 for $21,862, and yet another first-place finish in a $120 buy-in $40,000 Guaranteed event on 02/08/2009 for another $10,000.

His online MTT experience dates back to 2004, and today he can be found in front of three screens playing as many 25-30 MTT events at once. He even dabbles in no limit cash games when the tournament action has dwindled for the day, playing at the $2/$4 tables. He spends his action over numerous poker rooms, but Bodog is where he started and still prefers to play. Wright plays in as many Bodog tournaments as he can, and wishes the poker room would add even more tournaments to their schedule, especially more guaranteed events where Bodog often parlays extra cash on top of the accumulated prize pool.

Wright is not like your average young hot shot internet MTT player. At the age of 34, he has 10 or more years on most of his online opponents, and a wife and young son take up the rest of his time that's not spent grinding on the tables. Wright hopes to play more live events, but he finds the internet action to be more readily available and easier to battle variance with because of the shear volume of events that can be played in the run of a day.

"It's hard to lose on every poker room at the same time, and if I cash on one or two I usually make money on the day". Wright has been doing just that for almost two years now, and already in 2009 he's won over $170,000 playing MTT's. He sits in the 99.38th percentile and is getting better all the time. All this points to this player being due to have his live-event coming out party, and the WSOP main event would be the best place for him to do it. He's certainly one to watch to out for this year.
