Top 10 Moments at the 2009 WSOP & Final Table

by Bodog Poker | Nov 13 2009

1. Joe Cada makes a big call with second pair during the heads-up match. Darvin Moon put Cada's tournament life at stake holding a draw, and Cada called with a pair of nines, good enough only for second pair. The play put Cada into the lead which he carried on to victory.

2. Cada sucks-out a set of deuces to cripple Antoine Saout. After going all-in with a pair of deuces, Cada is dominated and on the way to the rail against Saout's pocket queens. But the deuce hits on the flop, and Saout was out of the tournament a few hands later.

3. Cada doubles through Jeff Shulman. Holding pocket three this time, Cada gets his chips in the middle again heavily dominated against Shulman's pocket jacks. He hits his set of threes on the flop to double up and crippled Shulman.

4. Moon hits an ace on the river to eliminate Steve Begleiter. After Moon pushed in his stack holding A-Q, Begleiter insta-called him with a pair of pocket queens and the flop and the turn were blanks for Moon. It looked like Begleiter would double up until Moon hit his ace on the river.

5. Saout hits a queen to eliminate Phil Ivey. With Saout dominated by Ivey's A-K against Saout's A-Q, Ivey looked like he might take a run at the championship after doubling through. But a queen on the flop sent him to the rail, ending everyone's dream of seeing the best player win the WSOP Main Event.

6. Saout doubles through Begleiter. After flopping second pair with 8-7 in his hand, to a flop of 8h-3c-9h, Begleiter calls off a big all-in bet from Saout. Begleiter's instincts are right, and Saout shows Ah-Kh, but the 10h hits the turn, completing Saout's flush.

7. Buchman cracks Schaffel's aces with pocket kings. With all his chips in the middle with A-A, Kevin Schaffel gets a call from Eric Buchman who has pocket kings. The crowd erupts when the flop comes; Qs-Jh-Ks. Buchman rivers the fourth king, sending Schaffel to the rail in eighth-place.

8. Moon calls off Saout with nothing in his hand. After a flop of K-J-2 Saout gets all his chips in the middle with two-pair, jacks over deuces. For some reason Moon decides to make the call with A-4 in his hand. Saout easily doubled through and went on to go out in third place.

9. Moon calls off the rest of his stack against Cada with Q-J. After Cada won a big hand earlier, he put Moon to the test with an all-in bet holding 9-9. Moon made the call with the medium strength hand but didn't hit one of his cards, and the 2009 WSOP Main Event was over with Cada as the new champion.

10. Moon hits a king on the turn to eliminate Buchman. With all Buchman's chips in the middle he looks poised to double up with A-5 against Moon's K-J. But the turn card is a king and Buchman is done in fourth place.
