Money Bags: 2009 Top 10 Poker Players

by Bodog Poker | Aug 12 2009

1. Pieter De Korver is the top earner so far in 2009. He's cashed $3,275,389 in tournament winnings, putting him out in front of everyone else on this list by over a quarter of a million dollars. All of his winnings came from four cashes, most of it from his first-place $3,263,805 EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final win.

2. Poorya Naazari has earned an even $3 million in '09. His only cash of 2009 was at the EPT Caribbean Adventure back in January where he won the event and the $3 million. Naazari has not been heard from on the tournament circuit since.

3. Vitaliy Lunkin has won $2,765,949 from six cashes this year. His amazing run at the WSOP saw him win a bracelet and final-table in three events. The bulk of his '09 earnings come from the WSOP bracelet win in Event#2 where he won $1,891,012.

4. Yevgeniy Timoshenko is next with $2,202,341 in '09 tournament winnings. After making over $760K in 2008, he followed that up with a big win in the Five Star World Poker Classic for a cool $2,149,960 back in late April '09. His other two '09 cashes came at the WSOP, and were worth a little over $50K.

5. Another big EPT winner is next on the Top 10 earners of '09. Constant Rijkenberg took down the San Remo event last April for a tidy sum of $2,139,921. It was his first live tournament cash and continues to be his lone post.

6. Stewart Scott comes in just behind Rijkenberg with $1,984,874. The Aussie has two nice cashes that make up this total, one being a third-place finish in the Five Star World Poker Classic WPT event in April for $119,150, and the other being his impressive win of the '09 Aussie Million for $1,865,724.

7. Alexandre Gomes comes in next at $1,938,056. He has two impressive cashes that make up most of his total. He finished fourth in the EPT Caribbean Adventure for $750K and then won the Bellagio Cup V WPT event for another $1,187,670.

8. Matt Woodward makes the list at number eight with $1,938,948 in winnings. He has four cashes this year, with his biggest one coming in the EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final last April. He finished in second place for a sweet payday of $1,844,759. He also has two WSOP cashes worth over $44K.

9. Cornel Andrew Cimpan sneaks in at #9. He has $1,777,785 in tournament winnings, mostly coming from his L.A. Poker Classic victory in February. In the tournament he won $1,661,260. His other three cashes for ’09 are worth almost $120K.

10. Tony Gregg is the last player in the Top 10 money earners so far in '09. He has made $1.7 million this year, all of which he won for his second-place finish in the EPT Caribbean Adventure back in January. Tony has no other cashes so far in '09.
