BPOIII Event #2 Winner: Jamie "comfycouch" Silberberg
by Bodog Poker | May 6 2009
The
Bodog Poker Open III results are in, and the winner of Event #2 is Staten Island, New York native Jamie "comfycouch" Silberberg. His first-place finish puts $8,760 in his pocket and earns him some valuable points on the Bodog tournament leaderboard. The 23-year-old poker pro has been living in Las Vegas for a year and a half now, grinding out lower-limit cash games online and in live casinos in town, while still playing in the odd
multi-table tournament. Despite his recent online tournament success, Jamie will continue to play lower-stakes no-limit holdem cash games, mainly $2/$4 and $3/$6 action on Bodog Poker.
Outside of poker Jamie has a degree in music from Berkley University. His specialty is the drums, but music has taken a back seat to poker since graduation. He honed his
poker skills while in school, hosting cash games and sit-and-go tournaments from his dorm room at Berkley. After school he realized that poker was providing a more dependable income than performing music, and now he lives the life of a young poker professional in Las Vegas.
Even though he has what it takes to win a big multi-table tournament, Jamie says that he's not going to play in many events at the
WSOP. He would rather hunt down all the juicy cash games that will be in town during the tournament, instead of risking the bigger buy-ins in the WSOP. If things go well on the cash game tables he may play in an event or two later in the month.
Despite Jamie's young age he's been around poker for many years. Before university he was playing five-card-draw games for cash, and over the years he's learned that poker requires personal discipline and mental strength to deal with all the ups and downs that the game will bring to a serious player. He hasn't had that big score that many young players have to be able to play professionally, and instead has paid his dues at each blind level along the way.
One of Jamie’s strengths is his obvious control on bankroll management. He's seen so many players come and go because they didn't know to play their money properly, and Jamie doesn't put his bankroll in jeopardy in games that are too big for the variance of the game. He continues to play lower to medium-stakes games, earning a living without risking everything in the run of a session or two.
Jamie would like to see his
poker game evolve into more live events as the years go on. He wants to build a bankroll where he can afford the biggest live games, while maintaining a good yearly income from online cash game action. At his age he has nothing but time ahead of him, and with his money management skills he's sure to be a fixture on the poker scene for as long as he wants to be.
