Countdown to the 2009 WSOP Final Table: Odds to Win Main Event

by Bodog Poker | Nov 3 2009

We've been patiently waiting almost four months for the final table of the 2009 WSOP to wrap up, and that day is almost here. This Saturday the November Nine will decide who will become the new big name in poker, and this year it could be one of the biggest names already in the game. Phil Ivey will enter play on November 7 severely short stacked, but the odds on him winning the Main Event are still close to those being offered on the stack leaders. Two players have huge chip stacks, and chip leader Darvin Moon seemed unstoppable back in July as he consistently showed big hands for big pots.

Bodog Poker is offering all kinds of different prop action on the outcome of the final table, and you've only got a couple of days left to make your wager on how things will transpire on the 7th. Odds on each player to win the whole thing is the common bet most books are offering, but Bodog has a dozen other final table prop bets to choose from if you're looking for something different. You can bet on which player will get knocked out first, or even on what suit the card will be that hits the river on the final hand of the tournament. You also have a choice of betting on whether the eventual winner will be European or American.

What jumps out the most about the prop on which player will win the Main Event is the line on Phil Ivey. He has one of the shortest stacks at the table but he's still getting 3.5/1 to win the event. Going into the final table Jeff Shulman has twice the chip count that Ivey has, and he's made a WSOP Main Event final table before. Yet Ivey still gets 3.5/1 while the line being offered on Shulman is 4/1. Ahead of them are Eric Buchman at 3/1 and Darvin Moon at 2/1.

These WSOP prop bets all have a $50 limit, but you can make each of them if you want to. There is some nice action on predicting when Darvin Moon or Phil Ivey will get knocked out of the tournament, but both should stick around for awhile. It's a tough call to predict the outcome of a poker tournament, no matter how skilled or experienced the players may be. Luck always plays a role and it's sure to be involved in the results on Saturday. That's why these bets are so much fun; any player still in the November Nine has a good chance to win the event.

So if you're throwing a WSOP final table party for your friends make sure that everyone knows the lines on the prop bets. You can pad your playing bankroll with a little profit from a prop bet on the November Nine if you manage to make the right call.
