BPOIII Winner Michael "SHOWOFF" Lynn
by Bodog Poker | May 22 2009
During the
Bodog Poker Open III something occurred that never has before, as a Bodog Poker Open champion defended a title. Last year's Limit Holdem event winner, Michael "SHOWOFF" Lynn was able to beat out a field of 54 players to win this year's $120+$20 Limit Holdem event #7. The prize pool was up to $11,480 after Bodog added an extra $5K, and Michael's share for first place was $3,444. It's tough enough to win an
online multi-table tournament title, but to defend that title is something rarely seen in poker.
Lynn has been a Bodog regular for over six years but has been playing poker with his family most of his life. He started playing
Texas Holdem in 1997 after the movie Rounders introduced the variation to him. Early on he played mostly multi-table tournaments and sit-and-go action, but today he considers himself a cash game professional. He likes to grind $10/$20 Limit Holdem tables or play $4/$8 No Limit. Michael has been an online professional for three years who splits his time between Chicago, where his family is, and Vegas, where he plays in an array of live cash games.
He'll be in Vegas for most of this year's
World Series of Poker, and he expects to get there the first week in June and stay until July. "Me and a bunch of friends are heading out there in two weeks or so. I'll probably play in all the Limit Holdem events except the $10K event. Unless I have a real good finish, then I'll play in one of the big events and maybe even the main event."
Michael has always preferred to play at Bodog and still does most of his grinding there. "I've been playing on Bodog since I was 18. I know most of the players and it's where I won my main event seat back in 2006." Michael went on to go deep in that WSOP main event, finishing in 272nd place for a $40K payday. He's hoping to have another good showing this year and is looking forward to all the Bodog festivities during the WSOP.
Some of his recent tournament cashes include a first-place finish in a $3,000 guaranteed event for $1,030, and another win in a $1.5K guaranteed H.O.R.S.E. event. Michael makes most of his money playing cash games and says that he hardly plays any multi-table action anymore - but he has still managed to post 10 tournament cashes so far this year.
Michael has been a sports nut most of his life and he enjoys playing as many of them as he can. When he's not playing poker you'll likely find him in the gym or playing a pick-up game somewhere with friends. "I play most sports. My life was all about sports when I was younger, before I started playing poker. We'll play basketball, football, or just about any game we can get together."
