The 2009
Bodog Poker Open III Turbo $100+9 Event #8 attracted a total of 98 players. After Bodog added on another $5000 to the prize pool, the players were battling for $14,800, with first-place money of $4,440 going to online poker pro Austin "Quietwinner" McCormick. The 22-year-old Missouri native has been a professional online poker player for a little over a year now, but he's been playing poker seriously for over five years. The BPO III win was one of many multi-table tournament cashes Austin has this year playing on Bodog.
He got his bankroll started after he had a 7K win in the Bodog 100K back in 2007. He's played it smart since then and mainly concentrated on playing
multi-table tournaments. His online earnings speak for themselves, and they were recently highlighted by his first six-figure score, a $117K second-place finish in a million-dollar prize pool event earlier this month. He attributes a lot of his development to the assistance of online pro "Stuman123", also known as "OmahaPlaya69" on Bodog.
Austin has only been able to play in live casinos since he turned 21 a little over a year ago. In that short period of time he's compiled a list of eight live cashes totalling $29,510. Four of those cashes were final table appearances, and the other four were near misses of 14th place or better. His biggest live cash came in October of 2008 when he won $11,087 for a fourth-place finish in Event #1 of the Caesars Indiana WSOP Circuit Event. McCormick plans on playing in some WSOP events during a three-week stay in Vegas next month. He prefers the six-table MTT action and intends on playing in all them at the WSOP, as well as the $1K bargain event that's likely to draw a huge field.
Austin enjoys playing on Bodog, especially in the MTT’s. He likes the smaller fields and finds the win/loss variance to be more manageable. "Bodog is a good place to build a bankroll without having to play against thousands of players when you're just starting in the game. They have the best bargains and overlays you can find. My favorite event is still the
Bodog $100K, it consistently has the best overlays online."
When he's not playing numerous MTT's Austin will occasionally get into a cash game. He likes to play $5/$10 no-limit holdem, or he'll grind out some limit holdem heads-up when he can find the right action. "I don't play cash games very often, only here and there when I get bored of the MTT grind. Sometimes I play
five-card stud, Bodog is the only good poker site that has five-card stud action."
When he's not scoring six-figure cashes Austin can be found partying with friends and playing video games like Madden. He's a big sports fan who cheers for all the
St. Louis teams. He eventually would like to be playing in all the big poker events, and has intentions to start up a business or two in the future. "I'd like to open a restaurant or maybe a Café."
