BPOIII Event #5 Winner: Andrew "FLUSH634" Foster
by Bodog Poker | May 13 2009
Event #5 of the
Bodog Poker Open III attracted a total 87 players for a total prize pool of $35,000. The re-buy holdem event had an extra $5K added to help build the prize pool, and the eventual winner was online poker pro
Andrew "FLUSH634" Foster. Foster has been playing cards for most of his life, and he began playing
Texas holdem seriously about five years ago. The 30-year-old grinder has been a professional player for a little more than a year, playing exclusively online multi-table action. Foster goes by the username "FLUSH634", and his online poker achievements are impressive.
The Indianapolis native is a dedicated grinder who puts in many hours, usually playing six days a week. He currently sits in the 98.82th percentile and is posting cashes almost every day he plays. Besides his Bodog Poker Open III win, some of his recent big scores include a second-place finish on December 7 in a $215 buy-in/$250K guaranteed event for $34,320, and on January 18 another second-place finish in a $150 buy-in/$50K guaranteed event for $24,688. He was once again the bridesmaid in a $55 buy-in $40K guaranteed event, finishing second for $13,580 on April 4.
Unlike many young professional online players Foster does not aspire to become a famous television poker player. He plays very few live events, and prefers the higher output and less glitz that the online game provides. A true online grinder, it's all about the profit for Foster, and he's more interested in feeding his wallet with cash than feeding his ego with camera time.
He does intend on playing in a couple of live events during the
World Series of Poker. He'll be in Vegas for a good part of June visiting some online poker friends who have helped him develop his game over the last year. He attributes a lot of his success to Bodog Poker veterans
David "TheMaven" Chicotsky and
Ari "BodogAri" Engel. He will be staying with them in shared accommodations in Vegas during the WSOP.
Foster built his bankroll
playing on Bodog over the last five years and continues to take advantage of the Bodog tournament schedule. He likes the smaller fields and never lets a great overlay pass his way. "I've always liked Bodog, it's where I started and I know a lot of the players. It's a good site for new players to play tournaments with big prize pools but smaller fields of players. The
overlays are the best, just last week they added $50K to a tournament."
Foster's poker aspirations are not to become the most famous poker player in the world. He'd be happy playing online for the rest of his life, quietly building a bankroll. He hopes the future will bring more action online, and he wants to see the online game reach its full potential as it evolves in the future. "I just want to
play poker and learn as much as I can to be a better player."
