Bodog Flight Club Interview: WitchfinderG
by Bodog Poker | Oct 8 2009
Bodog's latest
Flight Club winner is no stranger to winning a big seat in a Main Event via an online qualifier. Timothy "WitchfinderG" McDermott is on his way to the WPT Southern Poker Classic on Jan 24 – 27, 2010, but it won't be the first big seat he's won for a fraction of the price. The 22-year-old liberal studies student at Sonoma State University also won his way into the 2009
WSOP Main Event this past summer. Now he gets his chance at a sweet WPT prize pool in Biloxi, Mississippi at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino. The four-day event is sure to attract some of the best in the business, and McDermott knows he will have his work cut out for him in the New Year.
Last year's version of the WPT Southern Poker Classic had a $2 million-plus prize pool and attracted 283 entrants. Allen Carter beat out Bobby Suer for the $1,025,500 first-place prize. This year should have at least that much up for grabs, and the young semi-professional thinks this will be the big live cash that so far has eluded him.
"I think I have a good chance in this tournament. The field will be smaller and there won't be as many good players in Biloxi like there was in the WSOP Main Event".
McDermott enjoys playing live more than online, but with a 45-mile commute to the
casino and a university schedule he doesn't get to play live as much as he would like to. He still has two years left to finish his degree, and turning professional when he is finished is not in his future plans.
"I would love to be a professional, but I'm not sure if I could make enough money at it at this point. Maybe someday if things go well."
McDermott had a rough go of it at the 2009 WSOP and wasn't able to cash in any of the three events he played in. He ran card dead for most of the time he was in Vegas and came home with only amazing memories and valuable lessons that he will use for the rest of his life. He's sure to gain some more valuable experience in Biloxi in January, and as long as he keeps winning seats in the biggest tournaments out there he will eventually have a monster cash that could change his life forever. When January comes you'll be able to follow McDermott's progress in the Bodog Beat as he tries to become the first Bodog Flight Club member to win the major tournament that they won their way into.
Why not take your chances in a Bodog Flight Club satellite? You could win your way into a major main event on a professional tour. You can play in them for as low as $1 or 100 player points. McDermott's first-place package to the WPT Southern Poker Classic includes travel and accommodations to the event, buy-in to the main event, spending money, a Bodog swag bag, feature articles published on the beat following your progress, and extra money based on your performance and exposure.
