Holidays Are Best Time to Play Poker with Family & Friends

There are a few times a year when we're lucky enough to get lots of family and friends together in the same place. The holidays are probably the best time of year to get everyone together, and with everyone on holiday vacation time, time fillers are often necessary to entertain everyone. What better time filler is there than a poker game, and what better time to play the game than during the holidays? With so many people at home at this time of year, home games rule the poker scene over the holidays.

Anytime is good time for a poker game, but during the holidays there are couple of times that work the best. The best time is during the evening of Christmas Day. After a big meal and a day of presents, getting everyone together for some poker action usually is a good idea. Many people only get home for a day or two during the holidays, and Christmas Day is usually the safest bet for them to be home. Having a family poker game on this day will not only be fun but will likely turn into a Christmas tradition, the way it has for countless families over the last six years.

People are usually settled into one place on Christmas Day and have done all the visiting they plan on doing, so it will be easier to get the required players needed to play. It's also a time when home-makers have finished all their holiday preparations and can sit and play with the rest of the family. No one has anything to do the next day except some Boxing Day shopping and cleaning up the Christmas mess.

The other time that works well for a poker game with friends and family is on New Year's Eve. This night is a party night anyway, and the party usually only gets going after midnight. You can host a poker game before midnight arrives to prep your group for the party to come later in the night. It's also a chance to beat your friends one last time before the New Year sets in. And many people are more comfortable with the more familiar setting of a home poker game than they would be in a party atmosphere, and there's always time to get to the party after the game has wrapped up for the night.

Just make sure that you time the game right so it will end at the time you want it to end. Get your game started early, and set the blinds to elevate fast enough so the game is over by 11:00 PM at the latest. That will give everyone time to enjoy the rest of New Year's, and if they're lucky get a few bucks richer.

Anytime that you can get five or more players together it's a good time for a poker game. The holidays provide lots of time to play with friends and family, and that's what time with friends and family is all about; sitting together having fun competing with each other a little bit. Games like that can provide lifelong memories with the most important people in our lives.
