2008 Year in Review: Wildest Multi-Player Poker Action: Part 2

by Bodog Poker | Jan 8 2009

In the game of poker most hands come down to two players. The aggression of two players raising each other usually forces all the other players out of the hand. But sometimes three or more players will think they have the odds to stick around to see if they can win the hand. With multiple players in the hand, draw odds increase and give players more incentive to stick around to showdown. Multi-player hands usually have bigger pots than the average hand, and there’s often a side pot or two after some of the players are all-in for their entire stack.

A big online multi-player hand took place recently on the last day of 2008. There were five players seated at a $500/$1000 Pot Limit Omaha game when the action suddenly went a bit crazy. Seated at the table were online professionals “durrrr”, “LokolsBack”, “Ziigmund”, “MR B 2 U SON” and live game professional Patrick Antonius. The hand started with “LokolsBack” in the small blind and “Ziigmund” in the big blind. Next to act was “MR B 2 U SON” who called the $1000 blind, then “durrrr” raised it up to $4500 to go. Patrick Antonius folded and “LokolsBack” just called, but then “Ziigmund” decided he wanted to isolate “durrrr” and re-raised it to $19,000, which would put “LokolsBack” all-in.

“durrrr” made the call, obviously hoping “LokolsBack” would stay in the hand and try his luck against two players to try to triple through. “LokolsBack” made the call for the rest of his stack, and the three players saw a flop of 6d-Qc-10d. “LokolsBack” was all-in at this point, and would win a pot of $58,000 if he could win it at showdown. The other two players, “durrrr” and “Ziigmund”, both had a lot more cash in front of them, and neither was interested in leaving that $58,000 hanging out there without a fight.

After the flop “Ziigmund” came out betting $58,000; the size of the pot. “durrrr” would not be pushed off of it and raised the bet to $232,000. After a bit of contemplation “Ziigmund” pushed in the rest of his stack, making it $292,993 to go. Obviously pot committed at this point, “durrrr” made the call, bringing the pot to $643,986. “Ziigmund” and “LokolsBack” were all-in and the cards were turned over. “LokolsBack” had a pathetic 5h-Js-6s-8h, “Ziigmund” had a good drawing hand of Kh-Ah-5d-Jd, and “durrrr” had the lead with trip queens with a hand of Qs-Qd-3d-8d. “durrrr” was the heavy favorite at this point with a 72.34% chance to win, while “Ziigmund” only had 26.15% and “LokolsBack” was nearly dead at 1.5%.

The hand was quickly decided when the turn card hit the board. The case queen came to give “durrrr” the quads and the massive multi-player pot. There were no cards that could save the other two players, who where drawing dead at that point. “durrrr” once again took down a huge pot online, as he’s been doing for a few years now.
