New Poker Show: "2 Months, 2 Million"

by Bodog Poker | Aug 14 2009

Online players have continued to lurk in the shadows of the mainstream poker media. Even though some of these players make millions of dollars playing online, few get the television time that the big name live tournament players get. It's understandable why these players remain mostly anonymous, it's not like there are cameras around during a big online tournament. Only a few top online players have made the adjustment into the poker limelight, but that may be changing.

Four young online professionals have joined forces with cable network G4 to produce a show called "2 Months, 2 Million". The reality show will be a look at a group of online professionals who spend the day playing various types of poker action. The idea was easy for Vice President of Development for G4 Laura Civiello to take a chance on:

"There was something there that represented a lifestyle our audience is fascinated with. Every young guy wishes they could have this lifestyle, so it was very appealing to men ages 18 to 34, which is the majority of our demographic. We're definitely aiming at the guys who are plugged in. This is the first generation that has grown up with the internet. It's changed the way they've socialized. Culturally, it gives them a new way of looking at things."

The four players will be attempting to accumulate $2 million in winnings in a period of two calendar months. They will be risking their own money playing various types of poker action. The group consists of Jason "pr1nnyraid" Rosenkrantz, Brian "Flawless_Victory" Roberts, Emil "whitelime" Patel, and Dani "Ansky" Stern. Each has had different levels of success online, and all have been making a living playing poker online for years.

Taping of the show is underway and airing is set to start on August 16. The four will have to average a half million dollars each to reach their goal. It's unclear what the action will consist of, but these players are experienced pros who play many different variations of the game. The show will be the first one of its kind, mainly because no one was willing to air a show about an activity that some politicians are trying to make illegal.

G4 executives have taken all the necessary precautions before moving ahead with the production of the show. Civiello made it clear that the legalities will not play into the equation. "We vetted the concept through our legal department because there is a lot of confusion around this. You have people introducing legislation to completely ban online poker and you have people introducing legislation to allow it. It's something we looked into."

This show is the beginning of the inevitable shift from big live event coverage to online action. Online events are only going to grow in size because of the ease of play online. Eventually the biggest poker events will be played online, and the online stars will get more attention than the old-school crew we see on our televisions on a daily basis.
